Maya – Hip Hop

Maya, a native of Tokyo, Japan, began dancing at the tender age of five. She studied ballet for eight years at Yuriko Kawaguchi School of Ballet and Matsuyama Ballet Academy.  At 16, Maya ventured into street dance, where she trained in Hip Hop, Jazz, Locking, House, and Wacking at Tony Tee Dance Academy.  At 21, Maya’s ambition and dedication helped her to land her first tour for the famous Japanese Rock group B’z. Soon after, she began appearing on stage, television, and video with other Japanese Pop Artists such as, Namie Amuro, Simba,Kumi Kouda and BOAShe was featured in a live performance withJay Z for MTV Japan.  After moving to Los Angeles, Maya landed a principle role as one of the “Harajuku Girls“, Gwen Stefani’s infamous dance quartet.

Maya, a.k.a. “LOVE,” has appeared in music videos such as, What You Waiting For, Hollaback Girl, and, Rich Girl, to name a few.  Maya was also part of the Harajuku Lovers Tour 2005, which traveled the U.S./Canada, with promotional tours that covered Europe/Japan and also the, Sweet Escape World Tour 2006.Maya has choreographed and danced for R&B recording artist T-Pain’s, I Am Music Tour 2009-2010. Recently, Maya completed choreography for Japanese recording artist BOA’s, Identity Tour 2010, in Japan. Maya had the pleasure of working with artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Natasha Bendingfield, Chris Brown, Eve, as well as on The Ellen Show, Jimmy Kimmel, Good Morning America, Dancing with the Stars, and award shows such as, The Grammy’s, MTV, and the British and American Billboard. Maya was also featured in LXD’s online movie directed by Jon M. Chu.
